KRINKEL 2017

This is a post from the official website of Chiro Pilipinas about our experience in KRINKEL 20017; a camp for the leaders and oldest division of Chiro Flanders . I wrote this article, so enjoy reading! 🙂

Every four years, Chiro Flanders organizes the biggest summer camp for its aspirants and leaders called KRINKEL. They live, play, sing and be together for six (6) days. This is also their way of inspiring leaders and giving them new ideas for their activities. As a way of solidarity, they invite FIMCAP member organizations to send participants and they are gathered in one campground – the INTERNATIONAL. This year, five (5) leaders of Chiro Pilipinas responded to the invitation. This is us sharing our KRINKEL experience to you.

It was August 24, when we arrived in Merksplas.  We were amazed by the big tents that were already set-up. With our heavy backpacks, we walked to our campground and saw how everyone was busy building structures and sleeping tents for their respective campgrounds. We heard KRINKEL saying, “This is KRINKEL, prepare to be amazed”. The first task given to us was to help put up the sleeping tents which are not like what we have in the Philippines. These are big and heavy military tents which required more than four people to assemble. Apart from gaining the skill to put up military tents, we also gained new friends.

Over 4000 people lived in Merksplas for Krinkel 2017. It is the biggest number they got so far with 800 volunteers, 12 camp grounds, and more than 300 living groups! All participants were divided into small groups, which they call living group. We played together as a living group, sometimes with another living group which could be from another campground. Playing new games and meeting new people added to our excitement every day. One specific instance is when we met an aspirant during one of the games. She is a Filipino by birth adopted by a Belgian couple back when she was still in an orphanage in Quezon City. She told us about her plans of finding her biological parents in the future.

After every breakfast, we pack our lunch and off we go to the sites where we had the activities. We do things together as a living group, even having lunch. Water was also essential for survival in Krinkel, because it can get too hot in the field and we have to walk for about 15-20 minutes to get to the play area. Sometimes we were already tired even before the game began, but because we are Chiro and FIMCAP, we were always up for the challenge. We played until all our muscles were tired that we would jokingly say the next day that we regret playing the game. But in reality, we do not mind it at all because we love being in Krinkel.

Each day was different. There was always something new and special with the program. Our campground started one day in advance from the other campgrounds. So on our second day, Krinkel officially began. We were welcomed by a “RADIOSPACE”- everyone was full of energy, dancing and singing with the DJ in the spaceship. Loud music can be heard all over the area, some are sitting on the pelouse meeting new friends, eating their lunch and some are going around to play the small games prepared for them. It was a very fun welcome! The activity was followed by the grand opening in a big, big tent. Everyone cheered for their camp ground as their banner bearer entered the stage and proudly waved their flags. Of course, we cheered for the FIMCAP flag!

Since we were at the International campground, sharing of traditions and cultures were part of the program. Each organization presented something about their country that will highlight their culture or the organization itself. After the program, we had a buffet of delicacies from around the world. One may also get souvenirs from countries in the FIMCAP continents. Well, that is one of the perks of being at the International campground.

The mass game was amazing! Imagine 4000 leaders and aspirants playing different games which were interconnected. Seems chaotic, isn’t it? It was chaotic but in a fun way. There was something happening everywhere. There was a game played in each terrain. We had to protect our lives and at the same time, protect our allies since our opponents were waiting to stop us from achieving the goal of the game.

The spirit of KRINKEL twinkled even more during the National Singing Moment. Each campground would shout their yell at the top of their voices – from the band, to the parade, to the yell of every camp ground. But of course, the best yell for us is: “KRINKEL ACQUI! KRINKEL ACQA! INTERNATIONAL ESTA!” which means “Krinkel is here, Krinkel is there, this is International!” The night became even more special when a massive bonfire was lit and one of the most famous singers in Belgium took the center stage!

We also had a super late-game on our 4th night, which was very well formulated on our perspective as a participant. We can see; though it’s dark that the materials were perfectly placed and that everyone was so eager to be the first team to join the spaceship in its launch. We did our best to win. But because of the light limitation, our team’s color landed on the second spot. What surprised us the most was how the materials were set up so quickly. It was not there before we had dinner. But it was like a mushroom that sprung from the ground without us noticing it being set up. Moreover, there was quite a distance between the materials area and the activity area.

On our 5th day, we had a grand picnic for our lunch under the sun. Hotdog sandwiches and pancakes were served for everyone. White cloths were placed on the ground as our picnic table, where we ate while we waited for our next activity. That night, we went to visit the different campgrounds of each region and see what they prepared for their visitors. The gimmicks of each campground were so cool. One that caught our attention was that of a man sitting on a high platform licking a lollipop. The objective of the game was to guess how many licks it took to finish the lollipop. Each answer was written on a piece of paper together with the name of the person who guessed it. The person who wins will be contacted the next day and will be given a reward. Our guess was 54. Nobody contacted us so it means we did not get the correct answer.

It was Tuesday, last night of KRINKEL. The day no one was looking forward to as it means we will be bidding goodbye to everyone the next day. So we had to cherish every minute of the last remaining hours in Merksplas. The last show was indeed a great way to cap the event. It was awesome to see how the whole production was done. Indeed, it was the perfect show to end the KRINKEL. And not to mention the surprise wedding proposal that happened during the show.

We travelled 19 hours to get to Belgium and 23 hours back to the Philippines. It was a long but worthwhile journey. We will never forget our days in Krinkel but most especially, we will never forget our days with our host families where we stayed before and after the camp. Because of them, we had a chance to visit Brugge (sometimes referred to as the Venice of the North) and strolled the city of Brussels. We were also introduced to a typical family barbeque night and a common night at home that involves board or card games and beer or wine.

My good Reads 2017 – 2nd Quarter

reading-books-1

For the first quarter, I’ve read 3 books only. I told myself that I have to catch up to my target , so I did.

This quarter, I was able to read 6 books. 🙂

1st quarter – 3 books

2nd quarter – 6 books

1. China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan51bkIrULzuL._SX322_BO1,204,203,200_

These Asians are really rich, and all they think about is money, they forget about manners.

I am super envious with the life they’re living, but that is only in the beginning because in the end the writer shows the good and the bad side of being wealthy. And I don’t want to be the negative kind of rich.

One of the things that are very striking to me in this book is this quote “If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people He gave it to.” – Dorothy Parker. You have to look on the left and the right, because God gives money to those people who use it for their own advantage and to those people who use it in helping people.

The book revolves around the married life of Rachel Chu and Nick Young. But the day before their wedding, Eleanor Young; Nick’s mom, arrived at the venue. Everyone was surprised because for two years, Nick is deranged to her mom after everything that happened in Singapore.  (Read the book one.)

Eleanor has a reason why she apparently rushed to L.A, it is to expose what she found out. Rachel Chu is a daughter of a billionaire Chinese politician (how come? Read the book na lang, it’s too long to explain here. hehe)

Rachel and Nick travel to Shanghai for their honeymoon and also to meet the family of Rachel’s father. They met Rachel’s brother; Carlton, who is a carbon copy of Rachel, and his friend Colette. They were introduced to different wealthy people and found themselves agreeing to charter a jet to Paris, where Carlton almost got into a car accident AGAIN, but thanks to Rachel being the sister that Carlton never had, but now he has.

The part where Rachel almost dies because of poisoning breaks my heart as I’m afraid that she might really die. You know, some books nowadays kill their lead character for a more dramatic ending but fortunately, Rachel didn’t die.

The book also told stories of some people related to Nick and Rachel, and my favorite among them is the life of Astrid and her struggles with her husband Michael.

Favorite Line: “Behind every fortune lies a great crime. —HONORÉ DE BALZAC”

2. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK RowlingHarry_Potter_and_the_Cursed_Child_Script_Book_Cover

Yes, since we created a Harry Potter inspired summer camp; I’ve decided to read the sequel. I’m a fan of Harry Potter movie, I still wished that Hogwarts were real and so the magical world. I’m quiet hoping to discover their world because I know for sure that I’m a muggle and I’m thinking that their world was just hidden from our world. 😀 I’m not crazy, you know.

Let’s go back to the book now; this is the story of Harry Potter’s child. In this book, the trio is now an adult who now has their own family. Hermione ends up with Ron, while Harry marries Ginny Weasley. Happy ending right? Hehe

Well, yes, the whole magical world was at peace for quite some time now. The trio’s daughter and sons are already in Hogwarts to study magic and to advance their ability. But Albus Severus; youngest son of Harry, (yes, he named his son after the great Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape) had a hard time in his first year because of the popularity of his dad. Stubborn child, which I’m sure he got that from his dad. Albus became friend with Scorpius Malfoy (son of Draco Malfoy) who is an unwanted friend. Many students don’t want to be friends with him because his dad was a death eater before and they thought that he’s the son of Voldemort.

Earthquake on the Mountain

Sunset at Mt.Pinagbandirahan Batangas

These days, hiking or climbing mountain became a trend. It has a transmittable effect to people, especially to the Millennials; there’s a good effect though. The sudden popularity of climbing mountains helps boosts the tourism of the local governments and it gives jobs to the locals of the specific area.

As it continues to become popular some of the undiscovered mountains have been discovered and the untrailed mountains, now has trails. A lot of people are now being so enthusiast when it comes to climbing mountain, but maybe they forget something very important for the environment; they forget to pick up the trashes –their own trashes. Let me tell you some proof, later.

What keeps me busy these past months?

This is not so interesting, haha. I just want to write because my last post here was December 28, 2016 and what is the date today? March 9? 2017?

It has been 2 quiet months for me, because of a lot of things that I need to think about. It got me disturbed that I can’t find time writing even when my fingers are so itchy and misses writing. It is my nature to write when I feel like writing, especially when I feel so sad; it is my way of expression because my words sound better written than spoken.

So, now to break the silence of this wordpress (hahaha), I’m going to post ‘What keeps me busy these past months?’. And as written in the ABOUT of this page, this is my way of over sharing my life. Ok. Let me over share my life now.

  1. I’ve read two novels and these two books inspired me to live a beautiful life (kasi nga may pinagdadaanan ako), be happy with where I am and always be grateful for everything that I have. These two books are 1) The magical strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom and 2) All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I’m currently reading Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. 🙂 And they really are CRAZY RICH!
  2. I watched two korean dramas (Cinderella and the Four Knights and The Legend of the Blue Sea). I know what will you say, I am not watching them just to follow the trend, but what I watched has a great story and another reason for watching KDrama is if the main actor is LEE MIN HO. 😀 ❤
  3. I’ve also written three poems. At times that I can’t write my long thoughts, I recourse to poem writing. Short writing, but very meaningful, maybe these poems reflect what I’ve been through for the past months.

My Good Reads 2016 – 4th Quarter

reading books 1.png

In my Goodreads account, I set a goal to read 20 books in 2016, just to be safe😀because I know I can make more than that.  And I’m so happy to say that I’ve read 23 books.😀 Taps myself on shoulder *good job, good job* ;D

1st quarter – 5 books
2nd quarter – 6 books
3rd quarter – 6 books
4th quarter – 6 books

Here’s the books I’ve finished reading for the last quarter of 2016.

  1. After You by Jojo Moyes

Book 2 of “Me Before You” 😀

Yes, after watching the movie “Me Before You”, I looked forward to reading this sequel. And grabe, I misses Will Traynor even more. Huhuhuafter-you

It has been a year and months since Will died and a lot of thing happens. Louisa travelled around Europe as Will says, and she bought a flat in London using the money Will had left her, while Mr. and Mrs. Traynor got divorced months after going home from Dignitas.

One night Louisa fell from the rooftop of her flat, a 4th floor high. People thought she did that on purpose, but it was an accident that even her family doesn’t believe. They thought that she is a suicidal girl, who can’t move on from Will.

A surprise is waiting for her when she got back to her flat after recovering from the accident; Will’s daughter appeared on her front door. She’s a 16 year old problematic teenager whose looking for a family to accept her. Louisa will try her best to help Lily in meeting her grandparents and in changing her bad behavior. Louisa also joined a ‘moving on’ club, where they meet once a week to share how they cope with losing someone they love.

Read the book, so you can join Louisa in moving on; in helping Will’s daughter; and in falling in love. AGAIN.

I really can feel that there will be a 3rd book for this. 🙂

Maybe Louisa in New York?? Please Jojo!

Favorite line : “You don’t have to let that one thing be the thing that defines you.” – Will Traynor

    2. P.S I still love you by Jenny Han

p-s-i-still-loveyouBook 2 of “To all the boys I loved before”

Seems like, I’m into reading sequel books. Hahaha

But anyway, this book is the continuation of the love story of Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky.

When Josh finds out that everything is just a contract between Lara Jean and Peter, he confronted them at Lara Jean’s house. Everyone has heard about it, that makes the situation even worse.

But, neither did Lara Jean know that she has fallen in love with Peter. That she likes him taking her to school and back to her house, she likes it when Peter buys her donuts and they will eat together during lunch. Yes, he still loves Peter, because when she writes the letter to say goodbye to that feeling, it never left her heart. It stays there and it blossom because they spend more time with each other more.

During New Years Eve, Lara Jean met Peter at his house, to give him the letter she wrote saying that she still love him. However, facing Peter gives her chills and she was chickened to hand him the letter, so she crumpled it and keep it in her pocket. Peter notices her hand not leaving her pocket, so he tried to check what it is. He won in the battle and was able to grab the letter, he read it silently and then there, everything is back. Peter likes her. No. Love her, but he’s not telling her directly unless he is so sure about his feeling.

Both will try to keep the relationship stable, as they face a lot of challenges like the hot tub video of them kissing passionately, Genevieve – Peter’s ex-girlfriend and Lara Jean’s ex-best friend and John –their childhood friend; one of the recipients of Lara Jean’s letter, who liked her during 8th grade and likes her till now.

Kilig much ako sa couple na ito. 🙂 hahaha

Enchanted River | Tinuy-an Falls

On our 4th day in Agusan del Sur, we decided to go to Enchanted River in Surigao del Sur, because on my first visit, I wasn’t able to go, as I have a very limited time there. This time since we have one extra day, I don’t want to miss the chance to go to Enchanted River. 😀 So yeah! We have found a multi-cab to service us in going to Enchanted River plus a bonus visit to Tinuy-an falls.

Why Enchanted River? Because I wanted to see  how enchanting it is. It was popularized by lots of documentary shows and featured by different travel blogs. They’ve been captivated by its beauty and was mesmerized by its mystery. And I’m one of those curious people about the river, so why not check it out.

Thematic on Games in Mindanao Region

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” – Plato

tog-2016

Two of the head trainers of Chiro Pilipinas (Geril and me) went to Mindanao to handle the training of the leaders in that place, specifically, leaders and aspirant leaders of Afga and Simbalan in Caraga Region. The 3 days training was held at the Blue Lagoon Swimming Pool at Buenavista Agusan Del Norte, it was a perfect place and very conducive for the training. Thanks to the very generous owner who allowed us to stay in the place.
