Have you watched the movie Inside Out? If yes, that’s great.
If you haven’t, you better watch it. It was really a nice movie, at first, I thought it was a movie for kids or toddlers, but I was wrong. It was a movie for grown up people like me.
The main character is JOY and SAD, they journeyed together to go back to their headquarters after getting lost.
I suggest you watch the movie. 😛
From it’s very definition, JOY is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.
In a fast pace life we are in right now, how can we attain true joy? I know we all have different definitions of JOY. So, let’s take a look at some things that brings joy to the humans of today.
- New iPhone6
- New Samsung Galaxy Note 5
- New Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+
- Sumptuous meal at a fine dinning restaurant
- Lavish life in hotel or resort
- VIP ticket of your favorite artist/band
- Brand new car
- Luxurious travel to your favorite destination
- Nike shoes
- Adidas shoes
Woah! If you have all of that, that’s an extreme joy. Isn’t it?
Luckily, I don’t need all of that to have my extreme joy or to feel a great pleasure and happiness. I just need to close my eyes and imagine that I have it all. haha 😛 Kidding aside. All I have to do is to serve Chiro, be with kids and most specially once in two months be with the Montalban kids.
I am not against people who has all of the above mentioned things, I am just saying that I can have or we can have joy thru simple things around us, not needing to spend too much money.
I wanna share my last visit in 2015 in Montalban and my first visit this year for this is my simple act of service that brings extreme joy to my life.

I live in Cainta Rizal, and if you are thinking that Montalban Rizal is not too far from Cainta because both are located in Rizal, that’s wrong. The only way I can get to Montalban is thru Payatas road in Quezon City and it will take me more than an hour to get there.
We travel thru the car of my friend, meet up point is at the Centris Station in QC at 11:30 am. They usually start their activity at 1:30, so we have enough time to travel. Because Dec 6 is the feast day of St.Nicholas, we planned to give candies to the kids.
St.Nicholas is also known as the giving saint, the idea for Santa Claus came from him, St. Nicholas is very generous specially to the kids.
We told the story of St. Nicholas to the kids and asked them to draw a sock, the one we normally saw in the chimney or along the stairs. They enjoyed it, because you know, kids, just give them a paper and a lot of colors, they will sit in a corner and will really focus on what you asked them to do.
Here are some pictures of the kids, during the activity.

This Sunday, our activity is about the life of Esau and Jacob. We told the story of how Esau gives up his birthright to his brother Jacob in exchange of a stew. They also play ‘pass the message’ and sang a very active song.
What really keeps me coming back to this place is the smile that you’ll see in their faces despite the situation of life they have. Joy and Happiness for these kids are really as simple as the candy. When we handed the candies to them, it’s like a gift and at the same time a treasure for them.
That’s an extreme joy in my heart, like a river flows to my heart and for a moment I feel like my heart floats on that river.
What saddens me, is that after the activity I saw some of the kids holding a paper, they are going around the community, asking people to bet for the basketball ending. It’s an illegal gambling which is well known in this place as a source of income for some families. Imagine, as early as 9 years old, they are already exposed to this kind of illegal gambling. And I know for sure, they know it’s illegal because before we go home, we still stay in the place for about 10-15 minutes and we will see them walking on the streets holding the paper and once they saw us they will hide the papers at their back.
It somehow breaks my heart seeing them and me not doing anything to help them stop that illegal gambling. I’m no rich kid to just pull out a money in my pocket and give it to them. It’s one of the reason why I want to be rich, I want someday to go to their place as a millionaire and will pull out a big amount of money in my pocket and give it to them, for their school, for the food and for the clothes.
Do you know the song Billionaire by Bruno Mars? I always sang that song in my mind every time I’m with them.
Oh every time I close my eyes
I see my name in shining lights
Yeah, a different city every night oh right
I swear the world better prepare
For when I’m a billionaire
Anyway, I am so glad that for an hour, they smile so big and play as if there’s no tomorrow and being part of that moment is really a big joy to my heart.
